The Truth About Bikini Fabrics (and Why I Chose the Italian One)
A note from Bella, founder of AIA Swimwear
When I started AIA Swimwear, I didn’t care what the industry was using — I cared what actually lasted.
I tested dozens of fabrics. Some were locally sourced, others were eco-labeled, many were affordable. But after a few months of wear, especially in Bali’s real-life conditions — they all failed.
If you’ve lived here, you know what I mean.
Saunas. Ice baths. Chlorine. Saltwater. Sunscreen. Sun. Beach clubs. Motorbikes. Repeat.
Bali doesn’t give your swimwear an easy ride.
I saw pilling. Tarnishing. Fading. Elastic that gave out. Fabric that stretched in weird places.
And that’s when I knew — I wasn’t going to build a brand that looked good for a season and disappeared after that.
So I kept searching — until I found an Italian fabric made from regenerated nylon, commonly known as ECONYL®.
Yes, it’s expensive.
Yes, it's made in Italy.
And yes, it’s the only one that passed my tests.
I’ve had bikinis made from this fabric for over three years now — and they still look new.
No pilling. No fading. Still sculpting. Still supportive. Still beautiful.
That’s why I chose it. And that’s why I’ll keep choosing it. HERE IS THE PROOF:
The fact that it’s made from recycled materials is a bonus — but for me, performance comes first.
I won’t sell you something I wouldn’t wear in my own life, here, in the heat, salt, and sun of Bali.
When you wear AIA, you’re wearing something tested — not just talked about.
